Behavioral Curriculum / The Action Plan
Mock Action Plan
Beliefs
- All kids deserve to have a positive learning experience that will allow them to be able to flourish in the learning environment.
One Classroom Rule
- Have respect and kindness amongst all students
- Everyone deserves to be heard and listened to by all
Class Procedures
1.) Participating in group lessons: Do not bring anything with you unless I ask you to; politely find a place to sit where you can do your best learning; sit flat, not on your knees; listen carefully for new information; raise your hand to speak; do not speak when someone else is speaking.
2.) Obtaining help with assignments: Quietly ask the students near you for help with directions if you need it but wait for me to finish talking; if you are working alone, raise your hand to get help from me.
3.) What to do with unfinished work: If we don’t finish learning a new combination, we will finish it as a warm-up for our next class!
4.) Being a classroom helper: The studio could always use some extra helping hands; if you see trash, make sure to pick it up; if you see a friend struggling, you can help them or call me over for guidance. These are just a few examples.
5.) Signals for attention: When I need your attention, I will ring the chimes (or sound the rain stick, open the music box, etc.); as soon as you hear the signal, stop what you are doing, look at me, and listen for directions.
6.) Helping other students: In a cooperative classroom, it is good to help one another; if someone needs help with directions, help him or her if you are able; if someone needs help with understanding, tell him or her to ask me for help; never put down another student who asks for help
7.) Getting into work groups — Take all the materials you will need; greet each other; complete the task doing your personal best; make sure each person signs the project; thank the others in your group.
8.) Throwing away trash — You may throw away trash whenever you need to if I am not teaching the whole group; do not play basketball with your trash; make sure all trash lands in the can; pick up trash even if it isn’t yours.
9.) Guests in the classroom — When guests enter the room, let the designated classroom “host” or “hostess” greet them; when the host or hostess rings the chimes, get ready to listen to and look at the visitor — a smile is great!; when the host or hostess introduces the visitor, say, “Welcome to our class, __________”; remember, most guests are here to watch you learn, so be ready to explain what you are working on; treat guests respectfully.
10.) Turning in finished work/homework — Make sure your name is on your paper; place your paper upside down in the “finished work” or “homework” basket.
Schedule
Monday
5-5:15 pm: The students arrive and enter the studio dressed and ready to go. We will spend 10 to 15 minutes allowing them to stretch individually and use the bathroom or grab water.
5:15-5:30 pm: A selected student (this will change each week) will be leading the group stretching for the class to get them comfortable with one another.
5:30-5:35 pm: The students will be given a 5-minute meditation period to meditate before the class begins.
5:35-5:40 pm: The students will begin listening to the music for the selected dance combination and will begin marking the choreography with the teacher.
5:40-6:00 pm: The students will learn the combination piece by piece, adding on a new movement to what they already learned.
6:00-6:05 pm: The students will be given a 5-minute water break before wrapping up and performing the combination in its entirety.
6:05-6:20 pm: The students will perform the entire combination beginning with the teacher and then a second one without the teacher.
6:20-6:25 pm: Another selected student will guide the class in a cool down stretch/wrap up activity.
6:25-6:30 pm: The teacher will remain with the students until each one leaves or catches a ride (high school students so they are free to leave - don't need to see a parent).
Positive Consequences
- Giving them positive words of encouragement
- Giving them candy
- Smiling
- High fives
Correcting Behavior
- First, give them the "teacher look".
- If they don't stop their behavior, ask them what is going on?
- If they continue to doing it, ask them to take a break (walk outside or something).
- If they come back, and still continue, pull them aside after class.
- If it happens again, a call home/parents meeting will occur.
Crisis Plan
- Send the student to the office or if it is super bad, have someone from the office come and grab the student
